Welcome to the Gimli Harbour,
on beautiful Lake Winnipeg, the 10th largest lake in the world.   


The harbour is the largest of its kind between Thunder Bay and the west coast of mainland British Columbia. The Gimli Harbour Authority manages, operates and maintains this “Class A” harbour on behalf of the Canadian Government's Department of Fishery and Oceans. 

This is a working harbour. It supports over 50 commercial fishing families engaged in the thriving Lake Winnipeg fishery. In addition, it offers safe berthing for up to 200 pleasure crafts, as well as a launch ramp, fuel and pump out services. It’s location in the lovely beach town of Gimli give seasonal and visiting boaters access to a wide array of services, many within walking distance, and community events and festivals.  

Visiting Boaters

  • Please report to the Harbour Office to be assigned a temporary berth.

  • For visits up to 2 hours there is a fee of $5.50 + GST.

  • If you would like to stay for the day the fee is $13.20 + GST.

HARBOUR USE RULES

PRIMARY FOCUS POINTS FOR THE GENERAL PUBLIC AND PUBLIC ANGLERS:

  1. FOR PUBLIC ANGLERS - NO FISHING OR ANGLING FROM ANY PIER OR DOCK WITHIN THE INNER HARBOUR AREA AT ANY TIME AND NO CASTING TOWARDS OR WITHIN THE INNER HARBOUR AREA OR TOWARDS BOATS AT ANY TIME. PUBLIC ANGLER FISHING IS ONLY ALLOWED OVER THE MAIN PIER SEAWALL TOWARDS THE OUTER LAKE AREA, NEVER WITHIN THE INNER HARBOUR AREA.

  2. RULE 14 BELOW: All posted signs and harbour rules must be strictly adhered to.

  3. RULE 15 BELOW: Failure to abide by harbour rules could result in harbour access/services being denied and/or court action. (MAY RESULT IN A VIOLATION OF THE PETTY TRESPASSES ACT OF MANITOBA, “marked with conspicuously placed signage”).

  4. RULE 9 BELOW: No recreational diving or swimming on harbour authority property.

  5. RULE 6 BELOW: No parking in front of the slipway or anywhere that may obstruct harbour operations. Vehicles obstructing harbour operations may be towed at the owner’s expense and without risk/liability.

  6. RULE 11 BELOW: The harbour authority and its employees are not liable for any damage/loss/theft of harbour user’s property on this facility. All persons may use the facilities at their own risk.

  7. RULE 5 BELOW: The harbour, all wharves, docks and surrounding areas are considered no wake zones – only idle speed is permitted.

ANNEX A - SMALL CRAFT HARBOURS Harbour Authority Manual / Operations

1. Management and control of this harbour is the responsibility of the harbour authority by way of lease with Fisheries and Oceans Canada.

2. The use of harbour facilities is on a user-pay basis. User fees apply.

3. All harbour users must enter into user licences and/or berthage agreements available from the harbour authority.

4. Vessels left in port must be properly moored and secured.

5. The harbour, all wharves, docks and surrounding areas are considered no wake zones – only idle speed is permitted.

6. No parking in front of the slipway or anywhere that may obstruct harbour operations. Vehicles obstructing harbour operations may be towed at the owner’s expense and without risk/liability.

7. Please use garbage containers provided. Littering will not be tolerated.

8. Any oil spills or any environmentally damaging chemical spills must be reported to the Department of Fisheries and Oceans and any other relevant government entities. It is the responsibility of the individual using the facilities to clean up any oils/chemical spills.

9. No recreational diving or swimming on harbour authority property.

10. Only seaworthy vessels may berth within the harbour.

11. The harbour authority and its employees are not liable for any damage/loss/theft of harbour user’s property on this facility. All persons may use the facilities at their own risk.

12. Accidents, safety issues and other concerns must be reported to the harbour authority immediately.

13. The harbour authority reserves the right to remove vessels obstructing harbour operations and/or presenting safety and/or environmental issues at owner’s expenses and without risk/liability to the harbour authority.

14. All posted signs and harbour rules must be strictly adhered to.

15. Failure to abide by harbour rules could result in harbour access/services being denied and/or court action.

ADDITONAL RULES

  1. Visitors and registered harbour users use the harbour facilities at their own risk. Take precautions when on gravel and uneven surfaces.

  2. Parking is limited or restricted in some areas. Tow away is enforced.

  3. Follow directional signs located around the site and in construction zones.

  4. Children must be supervised at all times and wear a personal floatation device when on piers, docks and wharves.

  5. No swimming, diving or jumping in the harbour or off the Main Pier seawall.

  6. No casting into the Harbour or toward boats.

  7. Maximum speed limit in the Harbour is 9km/hr. All waterways within the Harbour boundary are designated “No Wake”.

  8. Dogs must be leashed and cleaned up after. Dog bags can be found at the foot of the Main Pier.

  9. Please dispose of garbage and recycling in containers located around the Harbour property.
